For the Love of Art

Peter Blume (1906–1992) Vegetable Dinner, 1927. Oil on canvas. Art © The Educational Alliance, Inc./Estate of Peter Blume/Licensed by VAGA, New York, NY Smithsonian American Art Museum, Museum Purchase

Peter Blume’s “Vegetable Dinner” speaks to me in its simplicity, as well as its implicit meaning. The two women seem to stand for the carefree and the domestic. There is a darker suggestion here with a knife seeming to carve one women’s thumb, while the other watches intensely.
