If not this time of year, more than ever – we need to remember that there is still a child within us yearning to be recognized. In the words of the Dalai Lama: “We have more conveniences but less time, more medication, but less healthiness, fast food but slow digestion… We built more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication. Steep profits but shallow relationships. It’s a time when there is much in the window, but nothing in the room.” These words stopped me in my tracks today as a reminder that we need to take time for ourselves to remember what it is that truly matters. The copies can sit on our desk until tomorrow, we can keep making lists only to realize that the important people in our lives will not be around forever. Take time for you and your loved ones this holiday season: a time to recognize the people who truly matter and enrich our lives.
